What's remarkable about the UCLA campus...

- it's the smallest campus (in area) of all the UC (University of California) system campuses, and still I get hopelessly lost
- classrooms/buildings are sponsored, which means they are usually named after a person or an organization (Murphy Hall, John Anderson School of Management, Bank of America conference room, ...)
- a UCLA store where you can find anything from groceries to UCLA sports gear to souvenirs to magazines to school books to Paul Frank clothing to a Clinique store to an Apple store to... you get the picture
- dozens of places to eat, drink and be merry (on caffeine, not on alcohol): Carls Jr, Jamba Juice, Panda Express, a Starbucks look-a-like (well more smell-a-like), half a dozen of regular cafeterias, ...
- has its own doctor and medical staff
- has its own basketball stadium/track field/soccer field/swimming pool/... for college sports
- a flea market every day
- a full fledged movie theatre at the film school where they have free screenings twice a week (which makes me a happy camper)
- On an average day, only about 10% of the students look like they've put some thought in their outfits. The rest of 'm throw on shorts, sweatpants, sneakers, and UCLA sweaters and t-shirts (or all of the above). Unlike the University of Antwerp, where about 90% of the students look like they've put a lot of thought in their outfits.
- 2 bus stops
- has its own bank
- has its own museums
- has a number that you can call when you have a late class and don't want to walk home by yourself. They'll send someone over to walk with you. For free. And the 'walkers' are trained in social skills so you can have a conversation. But they'll also walk 10 feet behind you if you don't want to look like you need a walker. Is what I've heard.
- distributes free issues of the New York Times and Financial Times each day
- students get around by skateboards, inline skates and steps
- a college football game will attract more people than an England premier league soccer game
- before and during finals libraries will be open 24 hours
- has a sculpture garden
- teaches every language imaginable. And if they don't teach the one you want, they'll hire someone to do it.
- students run around in their underwear once a year, or once a quarter. I seriously hope it's once a quarter cause then I'll actually get to see it :)
- during finals week students scream their lungs out at midnight
- has its own blood donation center
- students will be having their salsa or hip hop classes outside at night in the dark
- has its own ticket office where you can not only get tickets to the sports events but also discount tickets for the movie theaters, the popcorn at the movie theaters, the buses, the theme parks, etc.
- the Anderson school (the MBA school) has a career management center where a group of people (about 10) works full-time to ensure that all the MBA's find jobs (by doing counseling, mock interviews, alumni relations, career nights, ...)
- has an 'Athletics hall of fame'
- ...

But before we get all jealous, let's remember that a UCLA student pays $22,000 in tuition per academic year. Really puts our 200 euros in perspective..
